Imagine that today is Sunday. Your day of rest. Your day of leisure. Your day of chillin'. Your final day of the week, after long hardships of suffering on your studies or works, your holiday! And you spend your day by yourself. Would you feel relief the next day?
Have you been staying in your room alone for more than 8 hours today? Of course you do. You need that hours to sleep. Next question. Have you been alone in your room today for more than 12 hours? Perhaps you do because you might need the next 4 hours after your sleep to do your reading or your morning workout. Have you been staring at your PC or iMacs the whole day since morning? What time is it right now? Late at night? Have you got a good conversation with your parents today? Or you might perhaps just say a slight 'hello, good morning' to your family members for a second and then, continuing your introverted nature. Same here if you are an oversea students, have you been socializing with your flatmate lately?
If your answer is a plain; " sure I have", " I like to chat with real people", " mesti laah, borenk kali aeh sorang-sorang". Well, you might leave this blog and click " Alt+F4". But if your answer sounds like; " eehmm...I think so. I've been playing DOTA, World of Warcraft and CS since breakfast. Did I have my breakfast?", " ehmmm....yeah man, I've been watching Ray's "what's happening forum" and Shane's Shananay on YouTube the whole evening", and " awo aeh! gila kali eh. Borenk ku sorang2 anie." You might want to read this blog then.
Before you feel remorseful to yourself for being lonely, think first to read this article ' Seniors Loneliness'. It's about old people feeling lonely despite there's television and internet being provided by the government. What's left for old people to enjoy the technological advances like plasma tv if their eyesights and hearings are gone? Could you watch NBA if you are blind? Could you listen to Obama's speech if you are deaf? Of course you can't. This is what happen to those old people in Health Care Service after they have been kicked out by their own children. Although it may not be true that all mankind were like that; leaving their own parents to live with other old people, but according to the most recent figures from the Office for National Statistics, there are 7.5 million people living alone compared with 4.3 million 15 years ago. There's an increase of 3.2 million people. Will the rate be doubled in the next 15 years? To me I think so.
I tell you why. Last year when I was a first year law student at NTU, I have been sharing a flat at maples st. Nottingham with this guy from Leeds. He told me that he has been living in Nottingham since he took his degree in computing in 1998. Shockingly, after he got his degree, he has worked under NTU for the next 7 years! And now, he's purchased a house near the Uni. No life, you may ask? Personally, I think he may have a family problem. I think he has a quarrel with his dad and so he ended up living alone. I think, as he is a computer savvy, he might get bitten down by his little brother in video computer game so he decided to live alone. Or I think he likes to be alone and listening to Akon's Lonely all his lonely time? Maybe. Moreover, I have asked him on a cool winter evening last year whether he would like to get married in the future. He merely said, " married? too expensive." [ Name remains undisclosed.]
What would happen if there are 40% people like this kind of guy living in our pandora? In national statistics, 2/5 of the population in the world are living alone. I think eventually mankind would cease to exist because they tend to ignore each other and decide to live by their own.
I have found this nice quotes by Paul Tillich. "Language....has created the word "loneliness" to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word "solitude" to express the glory of being alone."
So, do you feel happy to be alone? Or you just want to create your world by your own?
Have you been feeling lonely? Then you might need to get your lazy asses out your damn house and say 'hi' to strangers! You might get a hi back or a smirk. So what.
